The School of Foreign Languages comprises two teaching departments—Business English and Japanese—as well as one College   English Teaching and Research Office.It currently hasa faculty of 50 members, among whom 22 are associate professors or above,         accounting for 44% of the total, and 38 hold master's degrees, representing 76%. In addition, the School employs five international teachers. The teaching facilities include nine language laboratories (featuring one Business English training room and one Japanese training    room), one foreign language broadcasting station, and five off-campus practice bases.

In recent years, the School of Foreign Languages has attached great importance to both teaching and research. Faculty members      have published over 100 academic papers in various journals and more than 30 books, including academic monographs, translations, and textbooks. They have also undertaken and completed more than 30 teaching reform and research projects. At the institutional level, the School has developed a number of high-quality teaching resources, including one Featured Major, three Excellent Courses, two Key      Courses, two “Curriculum with Ideological and Political Elements” courses, and one Key Cultivating Discipline.

Faculty members have received numerous honors in teaching and professional competitions, including titles such as “National        Excellent Instructor,” “Excellent Ideological and Political Worker in Gansu Higher Education Institutions,” and “Excellent Teacher” at    the university level. They have also won first, second, and third prizes in the SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest, along with awards in teaching excellence, young teachers’ practical ability competitions, and curriculum development.

Thanks to the collective efforts of the faculty, the initial employment rate of graduates has remained above 80%. The School’s Youth League General Branch has been awarded the title of “May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee of Gansu Province.” Students      have demonstrated strong performance in various professional qualification examinations, including BEC, the National Tour Guide Qualification Examination, Inspection and Customs Declaration certifications, and the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, with pass rates     ranking among the highest in Gansu Province. In addition, students have achieved outstanding results in the National Foreign Languages Contest (Gansu Division), winning special prizes as well as first and second prizes in both professional and non-professional categories. By the end of 2019, a total of 71 students had been awarded National Scholarships and National Encouragement Scholarships in              recognition of their academic excellence. In 2014, the School was honored with the title of “March 8th Red-Banner Collective.”

During the critical phase of transformation toward an application-oriented institution at Lanzhou Institute of Technology, the School of Foreign Languages upholds its educational philosophy of “prioritizing moral education, strengthening undergraduate education,           integrating industry and education, and emphasizing technical and practical competence.” Guided by the principle of “solid language     proficiency, adequate business knowledge, a balance between theory and practice, and innovative application,” the School is committed to continuously improving teaching quality and research capacity while expanding international exchange and academic influence. It      actively explores an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) model for foreign language talent cultivation, aiming to develop application-oriented graduates who are well-equipped to contribute to regional economic and social development.
